The impulse to gather and collect materials, then weave, or bind them together to construct structures and surfaces is one shared by animals and peoples around the world. The origins of clothing and costume seem to be equally rooted in our need for shelter/protection and desire for ornamentation. This project is our first leap into ‘fashioning art’, working with the materials in our immediate environment to construct a protective and/or ornamental wearable surface or structure.
